PMT was founded in 2013 to serve clients, students and programs in York and Mecklenburg Counties of the Carolinas.
The mission of PMT is to engage, empower and accompany individuals to reach their goals grounded in the frameworks of music therapy and social work. PMT strives to meet students and clients where they are and support them in improving their quality of life. Additionally PMT serves to promote the growth of music therapy students and board certified music therapists by offering educational opportunities plus increasing the community's awareness of the field of music therapy.
Clinical experiences may include individual and group based music therapy treatment (remotely & in-person). Client age ranges from child to adult and community partnerships are listed here. Additional learning experiences will be available through music instruction of adapted or traditional lessons on various musical instruments, co-facilitating professional development events, community based opportunities with music making and program development.
This is an unpaid internship. We encourage you to apply for theSoutheastern Regionof AMTA Internship Scholarship and the opportunity through the Music Therapy Association of South Carolina. Internship Qualifications Interns must have acquired all competency-based prerequisites for internship (including both coursework completion and clinical experience) required by both the AMTA approved college/university and the internship program, prior to beginning the internship. Intern Responsibilities As an intern you are expected to:
Adhere to professional guidelines and standards (noted above)
Seek feedback and clarification through regular communication with supervising music therapist and Internship Director.
Maintain regular communication with the academic faculty
Complete a midterm and final evaluation
Adhere to PMT dress code
January, October October 1st is the last day to submit application for interning in January. April 1st is the last day to submit application for interning in August.
$1,000. Mileage will be reimbursable when traveled from a work location to another work location using the current IRS Rate.
