The Music Therapy Association
of North Carolina had its first organizational meeting
on July 15, 1978.
It was held at Queens College in Charlotte, NC, organized
by Barbara Memory, Linda Smith, Ruth Boxberger, Cathy
McKinney, and Jim Jenkins. On October 10, 1978, MTANC
was officially incorporated as a professional state
organization.
The Purpose Statement
of MTANC was formed as follows: "Join
together for the advancement of music therapy as a
professional discipline in the state of North Carolina
along with the purposes and objectives of the American
Music Therapy Association and the Southeastern Region."
