Facility Characteristics Hospice & Palliative CareCenter provides end-of-life care to patients and families who are facing life-limiting and terminal illnesses. Current patient daily census ranges between 450 and 500 patients. Bereavement and counseling services are available to families of hospice patients, as well as to any person in the community who needs support after a death-related loss. Community programs extend HPCC’s outreach to include end-of-life planning and education. Hospice and home health services are available to people of all ages who present with a wide range of diagnoses. HPCC is the oldest hospice in the state, and serves thirteen counties from four offices in the North Carolina piedmont. Care is provided in patient homes; assisted living and long-term care facilities; and at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, a 40-bed inpatient facility. The main office and hospice home are located in Winston-Salem, NC.

Training Music therapy interns work within a broader Complementary Therapies Program, which presents the opportunity for co-treatment and exposure to other modalities (such as massage and energy therapies). Interns gain experience with individuals from a broad range of background, age, and diagnosis, working with patients and families throughout the dying process. Interns can expect to heavily utilize accompaniment and vocal skills in patient/family music therapy sessions, to work with an inter-disciplinary team, and to participate in grief group co-facilitation.
