Facility Characteristics
This internship was established in 1994. It is nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains that surround Asheville. It has a long history of preparing music therapist to have successful careers as end-of-life music therapists. We serve clients who are facing the end of life in Buncombe and Henderson County (primarily Asheville and Hendersonville).CarePartners Hospice is dedicated to enabling clients to live fully through life's journey. We believe every client has the right to die with dignity and to be surrounded by compassionate and competent professionals. Clients vary in age and diagnosis. Each client's journey is unique, as is each intern.
Training
Interns will complete an extensive orientation before having the responsibility of their own caseloads. Interns will have their own caseloads with hospice clients in three areas: homes, nursing homes and our 27 bed inpatient unit. Students will also participate in facilitating Grief Education Classes and Grief Processing Groups. Interns will participate in funerals when appropriate and a community memorial service. Our music therapists and staff consider interns to be an important part of the hospice and bereavement team. Supervision will focus on Musicianship, therapeutic verbal skills, specific music therapy interventions relevant to end-of-life issues, ethical dilemmas, self-awareness and preparing to sit for the Certification Exam. Supervision will be ongoing throughout the entire seven month experience and tailored to each interns skills and needs.
